Toddler Forest School

What a great way for a toddler to spend a morning! Tiny traversed uneven rocky ground; painted stones with water and played on a swing. In this very hot weather it was perfect as we were cool under the canopied shade of the forest.

Later a fire was lit and the little ones toasted marshmallows counting up to 10 elephants before putting them in their mouths.

It felt like a lot of learning happened in a holistic way as the little ones used their bodies and explored a wonderful outdoor environment.

Space, Light & Colour

Great to take Tiny to new environments to explore and this art gallery in an old Salts Mill is perfect for such explorations. She enjoyed looking at the bright colours and light in Hockey's ipad and Woldsgate paintings. Being a very large building and a quiet day Tiny had plenty of opportunity to run around doing one of her favourite things at the moment - pushing her own pushchair!

Helping In The Kitchen

Tiny has always liked the dishwasher and from a young age expressed an interest in it. I think she liked the low hum and vibration. It became quite difficult trying to empty it in the morning as Tiny would rush over and try to climb into it. Now that she is nearly fifteen months old she is less fascinated with it because she knows how to use it. After breakfast she loves to help her dad with emptying it. The grater is her favourite item at the moment!

Pushchair

I bought Tiny a little pushchair, the kind you put dolls into as she enjoyed playing with them at a playgroup. However something she enjoys even more is to push her own pushchair. I lock the front wheels on it so it just goes straight and off she goes. Today it had the shopping in the bottom of it and she pushed it through the park much to the amusement of many passers by.

Mark Making

Tiny enjoyed making marks this morning with highlighters. It happened very naturally as she climbed up onto my knee while I was at my desk. She took an interest in the pens so I put out a sheet of paper and she started to scribble. Observing me pull the tops off the pens she began pulling them off and on, again and again.
